So the news about iPhone TV really interested me. Not because I’ve been dying to watch TV on ?my phone – that’s what a TV is for, isn’t it? – but simply because this is yet another thing that my ?little friend can do. Amazing how versatile it is.?

I suppose it is the technical challenges of getting TV to the iPhone that have interested me. I’m ?interested in knowing exactly how the eventually solve the problem.The gPhone TV is yet to break out while the opportunities are abundant .?

It seems like the iPhone TV solution is not going to involve the EDGE network because the ?broadband requirements are just so horrendous: instead you’ll need some kind of Wi-Fi connection. ?In fact this is easily done in most Cafés now, so you could watch WWE Pro Wrestling from the ?comfort of your nearest Starbucks. This is iPhone TV at its best.?

Unfortunately if you want iPhone Games apart from Mac Games you’re just have to wait a little while yet. While Apple have ?begun discussing the project they’re not ready to release anything just yet. We’ll have to wait and ?be content with the news as it arrives.?

The idea is based around a little file called a torrent which is downloaded from the web (or sent by email or whatever). This torrent file doesn’t contain any of the good stuff like music of movies (or whatever) but it does contain all the information necessary for your version of Ares to get onto the network and find all the good stuff.

What your Ares soft does is to find those computers on the network that have the files or bits of the files that you want. Once you’ve got a full music file you can play it as you would any other music file. While it is on your computer others can download from your bits of this file that they require. This is a proper give and take situation which may or may not leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling.

It is imperative then that the Ares team take all possible precautions, pouring over designs and testing individually manufactured parts before they are included in the final build. The team must do as much as possible towards testing as much of the Ares design and manufacture simply for the sake of those poor souls that are destined to be fired on the back of a large bomb into cold, dark space. Those brave souls in the Orbit shuttle that is powered by the Ares rocket that risk so much for the sake of furthering our meager knowledge.

The Ares I rocket and Orbit shuttle are all part and parcel of NASA’s Constellation project.

There are iPhone apps then there are iPhone apps like iPling that actually try really hard to (and succeed in) make(ing) your user experience a special one. It is clear, with the competition out there, that iPling needs to be radically different to survive. It claims that it is, and it seems to be picking up a fair amount of users.

And it is these users that will be key to iPling’s success: any social networking site or application simply needs enough users to give it its ‘critical mass’. Without the critical mass there are unlikely to be enough users for you to find enough interest in.

The key to this iPhone apps’ success is getting enough marketing. Which is why it is more than a little odd that it hasn’t entered itself in the Apple iPhone apps store: the home of everything similar in the known Universe.

Maybe iPling is just so different that it doesn’t need the helping hand of Daddy Apple. Maybe it’s doing well enough as it is, thank you very much. Either way I really do wish iPling the very best of luck in breaking into the market and making it big.

A came across the old classic first: Ares Galaxy. It seemed to me that this was getting a little long in the tooth, so I moved on. Next on the list of candidates was Ares Destiny. It looked good enough so I was about to download. Then I decided (fortunately) to do a little search of reviews: turns out not only does the software suck, but it also packages some pretty nasty adware with the free Ares download. Good job I checked!

The third candidate was also the best and the last. Ares Ultra was incredibly easy to setup and start using. It’s still working today with absolutely no issues so far. This is a fantastic free Ares download that has made my life easier (and less expensive!).

Here are just some of the reasons why I hated the service I picked.

Price. This is expensive. After comparison it is unacceptably expensive for the variety of iPhone music that I was getting.

Download speeds. If I’d walked to the services’ offices in India, burnt the iPhone music onto a CD then walked back (taking the scenic route) then I’d return at the same time as my computer was downloading the same tracks. It was painfully slow. Ugh.

The download environment was insecure. This didn’t cause me any direct problems but I heard stories of others getting unauthorized transactions on their credit cards.

Customer support. Which, when I called to discuss the above-mentioned problems, was conspicuous by its absence.

Happily I found a much better and more reliable service from which to download my iPhone music. This is a much better solution and I’m really pleased with it. I just wish I’d searched around and found it to start with!
